President's Corner

Everybody is talking about "things starting to pick up".  From our perspective, we're still busy!  Thanks to friends and clients like you, we doubled our revenue in 2010.  This, during the worst economic times in the past 80 years of USA history.  How did we do this?  Again, because we have great clients............who trust us.......and who we value and appreciate!  It's that simple and that meaningful.

Recent client comments include:   "Thank you for doing a great job for us.  We appreciate it!" and, "The suite looks great, we are totally satisfied with the job. It was a pleasure working with you and we will definitely keep you in mind for any future work."  It doesn't get any better than this............and these are unsolicited comments, by the way.  Thank you!

DCI does it all!

Occasionally we are asked "can you............................?".  Simply put, we can do anything that our valued clients ask us to do.  We care about our clients and are happy to do whatever it takes to help.  Yes we do residential remodeling; yes we do commercial tenant improvement construction; yes we do new buildings; yes we do service/maintenance/facilities work; yes we do interior and exterior painting.  If you're not sure, please ask us.  We WILL find a way to help.

Save the date!  cake

We will be hosting our NINTH ANNIVERSARY celebration on May 11, 2011.  P.F. Chang's in Fremont (Christy St.) in the outside patio area will be the scene; 4:30pm-6:30pm.  Please join us for drinks, appetizers, and conversation.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Get to know..........Jose Carranza.

This month we'd like to tell you a bit more about Jose Carranza.  You've probably seen him around a lot, because he is DCI's very first employee and has been here since October of 2002!

Jose is originally from Puerto Rico and came to the United States in 1982.  Jose has an extensive background in construction, including a two year stint in a Hollywood cabinet shop. Through his craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail, he evolved into a master residential carpenter; then to a commercial superintendent.  The size of the job doesn't scare Jose at all.............he'll do a market ready project and a 62,000 sq. ft. tenant improvement concurrently.  He can do anything and everyone loves Jose!

In his spare time, Jose enjoys playing both indoor and outdoor soccer, and has coached youth soccer for many years.  Jose likes to spend time in Tahoe, where he enjoys hiking and down hill skiing.  Jose's been known to frequent a few casinos while in Tahoe.  He doesn't drink, but he has been very lucky at the tables!

We are grateful that Jose is a part of the DCI team!

Welcome, Dirk Johnson, to the team!

The Pharos Project

The Pharos Project is a exciting part of the growing Green Construction industry that is intended to help commercial buyers evaluate product content, certifications and other relevant data about building materials against key health, environmental and social impact bench marks.  Pharos provides unmatched transparency and depth of information about a product's impacts, not only during use, but also upstream in manufacture and down stream at the end of a product's useful life.

To find out more and to see how The Pharos Project can help you, please visit www.pharosproject.net.

We were informed of this website by George Salah, Director of Real Estate and Workplace Services at Google, Inc.  You may have heard of Google?  To paraphrase, George's comment was that "......green building is good, but it's not nearly enough.......".  With Google's horsepower, they are literally changing the world.  Very good!

Take the Pledge!

No, I'm not talking about a Boy or Girl Scout pledge.  I'm talking about the Remember Alex Brown pledge (R.A.B.).  The story of Alex Brown and her tragic death really affected me.  Alex was a Texas teenager, killed because she was texting while driving.  Hmmmmmmmmmmm........how many of you text while driving? Is it really worth it?  NO!  You'll get a ticket; maybe a front row seat in E.R.???

Link to RAB-take the pledge!  Take it!  I did!

Voice recognition software.  I CHALLENGE you to be safe!  Download the iPhone app or Blackberry app..........they work! I personally use Dragon Dictation on my new iPhone.......it's FREE and it works!

Updates on the new FASB Rules

FASB.  As we've written in the past, FASB rules are about to change.......with significant impacts.  We recently watched a webinar hosted by a nationwide leasing agency and a local CPA firm.  The CPA firm has heard jokes about the new rules such as "The Accountant Re-Employment Act of 2011".  The target date for this rollout is June 2011, but most professionals think that this date is still too aggressive.  And these rules will more than likely affect everybody; not just tenants/leaseholders. The new rules apply to leased equipment, such as copy machines, too!

Feel free to learn more via their website and/or contact your CPA/tax preparer.

DCI is on the move.

Due to our continued growth, we will be moving May 1 of this year.  We are moving to 48521 Warm Springs Blvd., Suite 307C, Fremont, CA. 94539.  We are still in Fremont, just further away from the (Fremont) dump and highway noise.  Our phone and fax numbers will remain the same.

Shadowcliffs

For those of you interested in the Tri-Valley or "East East Bay", I wanted to update you on a Shadowclifffs, a regional park in Pleasanton.  For the past year and a half, I've been chairman of Friends of Shadowcliffs (FoSC).  FoSC is simply a grassroots group of people, interested in preserving and maintaining our local treasure.

The East Bay Park District is currently in the public review period for the updated general plan, regarding Shadowcliffs.  For further information, please view the EBPD website and/or http://friendsofshadowcliffs.com/.

It's VERY interesting to see our government, even local, "in action"!
